Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!
Today is Columbus Day in the US but more importantly, it's Thanksgiving in Canada which is a statutory holiday so almost every Canadian has the day off and plans to spend it stuffing their faces with turkey and pumpkin pie. This makes it similar to Thanksgiving in the US in that families gather to eat too much, watch sports (football for Americans, hockey for Canadians) and of course, give thanks, but Canadians don't have a giant sale the day after--that comes after Christmas for us, the way God intended. Come to think of it, Christmas is a lot like Thanksgiving but with more presents and angels and Santa and baby Jesus. And often snow.
But I digress.
I have to say I'm surprised by how much I'm missing celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. I'm even kinda missing eating turkey, which is weird because I'm not a huge fan of turkey. And not only that, I'm all by myself today because D is off in Yosemite for some kind of work off-site, team-building, make-everyone-jealous-because-you-work-at-Google thing so I guess what I'm saying is I'm feeling a little bit sorry for myself.
On the plus side, I did get to enjoy our local farmer's market yesterday. It's no St. Jacob's Farmer's Market, but I did score some great produce, rye bread, and pierogies!! I am totally having some for dinner tonight!

Apparently the market is normally held in the Caltrain station parking lot, but this weekend it was in a parking lot behind the library due to the expected need for parking at the Caltrain station for all the folks seeing the 49ers game. It was very busy and there were lots of interesting vendors including a fish vendor and a guy selling Medjool dates.
There were lots of produce vendors and many of them had free fruit samples which helped a lot in deciding where to buy our strawberries. I was very tempted to buy these squash blossoms and try frying them in my air fryer, but I ran out of money so maybe next time.
These pastries were at the booth where I bought the pierogies. They looked delicious but I didn't buy one--totally gonna get one the next time I go! I did buy some croissants from a different vendor and they were pretty awesome, so don't feel too bad for me.
All in all my experience at our local farmer's market was delightful and I am looking forward to my next visit. Having said that, I might have to drop into the St. Jacob's market the next time I'm home visiting for apple fritters old time's sake.
